Five outstanding seniors received our PTO Scholarships this year. Selection was based on a written essay, GPA, community involvement and volunteer activities. Each student was recognized at our spring luncheon and received a $1,000 scholarship to assist with heir college expenses.

Lindsey Brummer has been an active member
of the Hudson band for four years including
marching band, Wind Ensemble and jazz
band. She was a National Merit Commended
Student and a member of National Honor Society.
She has been an active volunteer in Key
Club, a teen volunteer at Akron Children's Hospital
and a co-captain of her Relay for Life team
for three years. Her parents are Lisa and Gregg
Brummer and she plans to study biology
at Colgate University.
Nicholas Kelly has been very involved in school
and the community. He is a 4 year member of
the cross country and track teams. In addition,
he served as the Key Club President and as a
Relay for Life team captain. He is the son of
John and Lori Kelly and plans to attend Miami
University majoring in biomedical engineering.
Sally Patton is the daughter of Peter and Jackie
Patton. Throughout high school she has
devoted much time to clubs and organizations
including Senior Executive Committee, Leadership
Conference Planning Committee, NHS,
NAHS, and Relay for Life. Sally plans to attend
The Ohio State University in the fall to double
major in History and Political Science with a minor
in art and spanish. She hopes to become a
high school United States history teacher upon
graduating college.
Laura Shortman, daughter of Glenn and Nancy
Shortman, has been active in cheerleading,
dance, student government, band and is a member
of NHS and NAHS. Laura will be attending
the University of Cincinnati School of Design,
Architecture, Art and Planning. She will major in
Fashion Design: Product Development.
Susan Xie, daughter of Lei Xie and Yin Zhang,
has been actively involved in both science and
the humanities. She was named a winner of the
National Merit $2,500 Scholarship. Susan completed
a research project as a 2008 Science
Intern in the Cleveland Clinic’s Heart and Vascular
Institute, and the resulting abstract was
accepted for presentation by the Society for
Vascular Medicine. For undergraduate, she
plans to study biology and a foreign language in
the Rice University/Baylor College of Medicine’s
Medical Scholars Program. This is a combined
BS/MD program, to which 14 students are
admitted nationally each year.
